Next steps

So, now what?

If you're asking that question, this page is for you. Clarity, not pressure. One decision, one conversation, one step at a time.

Some people arrive here after reading Free Fall. Others come after a conversation, a podcast episode, or a season of life that raised more questions than answers. However you got here, this page exists to help you think through what it looks like to take a meaningful next step toward faith, purpose, and honest reflection.

You don't need to have everything figured out. You don't need the right words. You just need to be willing to keep moving forward.

Your next step

Where are you right now?

Choose the one that fits best. There are no wrong answers, and you can always go back.

"Wow, it's a gift."

Lying in a hospital bed after the parachute accident, Rex realized something he'd heard all his life but never understood: "I can't earn it. I can't work for it. There's no heaven or hell checklist." It all comes down to three simple things:

  1. I am a sinner.Every one of us has fallen short. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
  2. I need a Savior. He paid a bill I could not possibly pay. He wrote a check I could not possibly write. (Romans 6:23)
  3. His name is Jesus. He died for my sins, rose again, and is alive today. "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

When Rex finally asked God, "What do you want from me?" the answer was seven simple words: "You. That's all. I just want you." That invitation is for you, too.

Say this simple prayer out loud. You don't need to get it perfect. God already knows your heart.

A prayer to begin

God, I'm not even sure how to do this or what to say. I'm doing the best I can to open my heart and my mind to who you are and the relationship you desire to have with me. I acknowledge three simple things: I am a sinner, I need a Savior, and His name is Jesus. Jesus died for my sins. He was crucified, dead, and buried. Jesus Christ rose again and is alive today, and He lives in the hearts of men. Today, Jesus, I invite you to live in my heart.

Jesus, you modeled love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I invite your character and your nature into my heart. I lay aside the ways of the world, and I "sell out" to the presence of Christ in my life. I surrender my life to you, Lord, in the best way I know how, and I ask you to live in me. Help me, guide me, and direct me. Transform my life. Your word says when I accept you as my Savior, I become a new creature in Christ Jesus. I may not understand it completely, but I know I'm a work in progress. By faith, with the words of my mouth, I accept you as my Savior. My sins, past, present, and future, are forgiven, and I commit to follow you in the days ahead. Help me, Lord, to live this new life in you. In Jesus's name, amen.

Welcome to the family.

You've just become a new creation in Christ Jesus. This is a beginning, not a finish line, and you don't have to walk it alone.

Tell us about itWe'd love to hear about your decision and help with next steps.

Following Jesus is not a path to comfort. It's a path to truth, formation, and surrender. That decision will meet resistance, internally and externally. Old habits don't disappear overnight. Questions will surface. None of that means you chose wrong. It means you chose honestly.

Faith grows when it's practiced, not just professed. Check these off as you go. Your progress is saved on this device.

You don't have to have it all figured out today. Jesus asked over 300 questions in the Bible. He's not afraid of yours. Here are a few good places to keep exploring:

Every chapter of Free Fall ends with three simple practices. Try them on your own story:

  1. Ask yourselfWhat moment marked my life? What did someone say or do that was so simple, yet so profound, that I've carried it ever since?
  2. Tell yourself"I am not the trauma or tragedy that happened to me. It does not define who I am. I have value, and I bear the image of a loving God."
  3. See yourselfGreat story… so what? What did it mean? Who needs to hear what you learned?
